    Medication Favorites - ideas

I'd like more than 9 meds with super easy access.

To get to the Medication Favorites, you likely needed to use the mouse (in my mockup I put a little [F]  button )

So I'd have a 2 click rule .... for getting to lots of medications easily.

Another challenge is how to have multiple doses for a medication without clogging up the UI and without resorting to typing in the Name: textbox.

You have to search first ... one letter might be enough to bring up your favorite drug.

If I have 100 fav drugs I don't want to see them all!

Oh, but I want SO much more.

    :)

Making Medication prescribing a thing of easy beauty with the Synapse Ultra Fast GUI should be a high priority.

One issue with this will be that the Tabs and the Medications will take some time to setup for the enduser prescriber.

However, this is very short term thinking.  The time saved by having quick access to a large number of your commonly RX'd meds is a huge boon.  The number of times you have to prescribe a medication a month is ALOT !.

I spend most of my time doing repeats .. not prescribing new drugs.

I might consider automatically adding drugs to the favourites as they are renewed ....

    Should favourites be shared ?

So, if I change the orders for a shared favourite, then others who have the same favourite might be annoyed?

    Re: Medication Favorites - ideas

    Jason,

I like your ideas with the multi-function favorites GUI with tabs for Dx groupings, but that's maybe a little more elaborate than I need.  The favorites list is pretty cool now, but I agree that having more than 9 fav's and multiple doses for a certain drug would do it just fine, at least for me.  Could then type in, say, !amox and get my 3-4 favorite doses of amoxicillin tablets and amox susp.  If I need a different sig, can quickly type it in as usual.  I made a sort of similar thing in Access years ago and my criticism of it was that if I made a medication favorite with more than about 4-6 doses or so, it just got too unwieldy.  I might just as well have looked up the drug and typed in the dose as it would have been faster than scrolling through a list of 15 sigs or so to find the favorite dose I was looking for.

    Alex

If you add Amoxycillin more than once with different doses, and search on !Amox, you will see all those different doses.

And in my latest version, if there is only one match, then that gets used automatically - with no gui appearing.

    Re: Medication Favorites - ideas

I personally am of the belief that more is less ... that is too much choice leads to paralysis.

But one of the benefits might be that Jason's popup then allows you to say which drug is for which disease.  So, instead of having multiple tabs with disease classifications, you might bring up the patient's diagnoses instead.  But this then implies we have to know which system a disease belongs to ... which means each disease needs to have that ICD9/10 etc allocated, and not blank.  And a diagnosis has to be made before a Rx is done.

Perhaps too restrictive for my workflow.
